Maps and food

Postby Buxton Bob » 12 Aug 2012, 18:27

Hello all, we are looking forward to revisiting Symi early next month and could do with some advice from those who know the island so much better than us.
Two questions really, one is does anybody know where we can get our hands on a good map of Symi, we intend to explore on foot as much as possible and dont want to get lost to often. Also, whe we last visited we ate most of our meals down in the harbour, I must say all great food, but having read lots of your posts recently we have come to realise that we have missed out on some interesting eateries up in the chorio, any recomendations? (and directions) would be most welcome.
Thanks for your time folks.

Best map we have found is by SKAI http://www.mapsworldwide.com/sku_38151.htm. This is almost up to OS standard. We got a copy on the island, but for some deeply strange reason they seem to be in short supply.

There is a map of Symi for hikers (not that we walk anywhere) produced by SKAI XARTES, ISBN 978-960684592-5. The Symi map is number 341 and we picked this up in Rhodes from the newspaper stand which is situated in the entrance/gateway to the New Market opposite Mandraki Harbour.

Thanks Donna - the link works perfectly despite the preceding gibberish and, for under 7 quid including postage to UK, it's a bargain! Not that we manage to do much walking nowadays but who knows - maybe the map will inspire us! Could have done with it 20 years ago when we were regular walkers on Symi.

Yup, that's the map we've been using - really good.

And Jenine has a copy in the Olive Tree. We were able to buy a copy on the island, but others couldn't find one, so may be best to get one before you go.

The kiosk in the Vapori/Bella Napoli corner, opposite the bakery and Antoniades' hardware store, has them at the moment.

Maps and food

Thank you all for the advice ,My map has arrived in the post so we shouldnt get too lost wandering around all the interesting places you have mentioned. Now all I have to cope with is the news that olympic have booked us into r room with a 'town view' at the Nerius, soubnds like we might be staring at a wall for a week unless I can work some sort of magical charm on my travel agent.Has anyone ever seen one of these back of the hotel rooms at the Nerius ? I think we might just end up drinking all the Mythos to drown our sorrows.
Once again THANKS ALL who knows we might get to meet some of you one day.

If you get a second floor room at the back of the Nireus with a balcony it's really nice to look on to the garden I have stayed in one of the first floor rooms that had terrace that looked out onto the wall but most of the rooms at the back have a view of the garden or paths and steps around the hotel. If you can get an upgrade to one of the front rooms the views are wonderful or you can just sit out front and drink mythos
