Webcam Spring Clean

Webcam Spring Clean

Postby Allan » 23 Jun 2015, 11:10

While I was on Symi recently I took the opportunity to give the webcam a bit of TLC.
It gets quite a battering during the winter months and salt spray from the harbour tends to make a mess of the tiny window in its waterproof box. A wipe with a bit of Symi Visitor kitchen roll made a huge difference as can be seen from the before and after pictures:

As well as making the pictures much clearer, the camera isn't dazzled by the street lights during the evening any more.
I also tilted the camera upwards slightly as suggested by Snapperjon a while ago which may help during the winter months.

The changes can also be seen on the timelapse video:

Allan,I have this vision of you up a ladder and George Formby singing "A window cleaner you would be,
If you can see what I can see
When I'm cleaning windows."

Another slight improvement.....

Adriana has kindly moved the jasmine that was obscuring part of the picture so Pacho's is back in view! :D

I meant to thank Adriana for moving the Jasmine - I thought it was a vine that would eventually take over the webcam completely. Nothing against Jasmine but it's nice to have an unobstructed view again. Thank you :D

Is the webcam working ok at the moment Allen? I haven't been able to see anything for the last two mornings, I just get the white screen with Symi Visitor in the middle :'(

It's working fine Gemma1.
Try clicking this link: http://www.symi.eu.com/sva_cam/image000M.jpg
You should get the latest image. If that doesn't work then the problem is something to do with your internet connection I'm afraid. Perhaps try turning your modem/router off and on again?

Pleased to hear it's working again for you.
I assume it was just one of those odd 'internet things' that has fixed itself though I'm happy to accept responsibility ;)
