The webcams are in suspended animation at the moment as the power is off today until about 4 p.m

Apparently we may be powerless again tomorrow

But the last time I looked at Google Earth it didn't (on Symi at least) have anything near the resolution needed to identify people, military vehicles etc. Despite living in London where one has to accept that "Big Brother is watching you" (though I prefer to think that he is primarily watching the people who might be up to no good - which seems more reassuring: or me when I drive my car, to check that I have paid the Congestion Charge (ouch!!), I do think that he has a very valid point.

Presumably webcams could be set up to produce their images integrated over a long exposure time, which would mean that things that move (like people and vehicles) were blurred out of the picture whereas things that don't, like buildings and other fixtures - which I guess are what we really want to look at - still come out crystal-clear.

Apparently another website is laying great emphasis on the fact that photos may be legal but webcams aren't, ignoring the fact that, legal or otherwise, it's hypocritical to take a photo of anyone or indeed anything without express permission and then complain about a webcam recording the same thing... However, I'm just a drunken, racist cr***n according to some so I can't possibly comment. :geek: 8-)

Yeah but Kojak doesn't it conjure up nostalgic memories of the school playground :?: when the school bully resorted to personal insults and name calling in a bid to control of you :? . In those days I believed they had the authority to make such judgements, these days I know better of course ;) .

I'm shaken, but not stirred, Mazie, but I have a confession to make. The photo has been doctored, only the torso is mine...

It's disappeared here, I'm afraid. I suppose the power is down again. I hope that the supply is reconnected before cooking starts on 25th.

The cam is gone here...

But earlier it really looked rough. Looked like a boat was about to land on the SVA balcony!

The problem isn't caused by Symi power cuts for once. There's something wrong with one of the servers that host the webcam images - hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Edit 14:45

The problem seems to be fixed so we can all see the awful Symi weather once again.

First I got stuck on Rhodes for two days due to the weather. :( Then when I came down to the office on Sunday morning to catch up the power was off...

Looks like we are back to normal today, folks. 8-) As soon as I have finished answering the emails I will get a blog up :)

Perhaps Symi isn't that different from the UK, Adriana, you have ferry delays because of the weather, we have floods, ice and snow!

The sea conditions we were looking at on Friday, Kojak, I wouldn't have wanted to be out there believe me... :( :(

I've had a few rough trips over from Rhodes, mainly on the old Symi I before she was extended. Fortunately I don't suffer from sea-sickness so the only thing I was worried about was spilling my beer! :geek:

Oh how I remember a really bad trip over from Rodos back in the '80's on the old rust bucket the Panormitis, so many people were ill, they wouldn't allow it today - luckily like you Kojak I don't get seasick (was brought up on boats in my early years)and I made sure my girls were as well and their kids - none of them suffer. I have also just remembered a trip that we went on the Triton it was fine leaving the harbour and we were aiming for Sesklia but the weather in the straight suddenly changed and we had to come back - gosh it was exilerating bouncing about at sea for some of us and not so for others.

Looks like an indoor day to me, provided one has stocked up on chocolate and have wood for the fireplace.

The "old" web-cam went into hibernation Des. 18th of last year. Any chance of kicking it back to life so I can observe the going on round "my" house?
