Ask questions about the island of Symi

Greek translation please

Postby SueO » 22 Oct 2006, 22:22

I'm about to send a package of hand made Christmas cards to Symi for sale in aid of S.A.W. Jean has kindly agreed to handle the sale/distribution of these fantastic :D one off :geek: hand crafted cards :o so, if you are on the island this winter please contact her in a couple of weeks when they should have arrived.

Right, advertisement over. What I need from one of you Greek speakers is the equivalent of DO NOT BEND in Greek. Something I can cut and paste would be really great.

Thanks

I was faced with the same problem a few years ago, when I was sending some photos to Greece. The trouble is that my Greek dictionary gives several words for the verb "bend": kmpto, ligzo, grno, and skvo. No doubt some of them are used for different types of bending in different circumstances - you don't want to find that you've told the postman not to bend over!

I think we need a fluent Greek speaker for this - will anyone oblige?

"Bend" did pose problems. That's why I chose the verb "fold". But you're right Anthony, perhaps Kon could oblige :)

Guys i think the best way to put it is
" PARA KALO NA MYN LIGISTE"which if translated means "please do not bend" :)

Thanks everyone. The package has now left bearing words (in Greek script) not too dissimilar to Kon's suggestion. (I hope!)
