Spanos Petition

Ask questions about the island of Symi

Spanos Petition

Postby Adriana » 03 Nov 2006, 08:30

Costas Sikalos at Symi Tours is organising a petition to Spanos to try to pursuade them to keep the Dodecanese Pride/Express service to Symi running this winter.

At the moment although it runs to other islands it will no longer be stopping at Symi.

Presumably there isn't the winter traffic to warrant a stop at Symi. Does the Proteus not cover the same route as part of it's schedule?

In theory both the Proteus and the Symi do the Symi-Rhodes run, but not every day, and although they can sail in stormier conditions, they cannot dock in Rhodes in a heavy swell or a cross-wind whereas it is very rare for conditions in Rhodes to be so bad that the Spanos cannot dock. Many flights would have been missed last winter if it had not been for the Spanos!

The Symi had trouble docking in the Commercial Harbour when we came home, which surprised me a bit. There was quite a big gap next to the Rodanthi.

If there's a swell running they have problems lowering the vehicle ramp safely.

Don't get me started on philosophers, Allan.
My next door neighbour is a professor of the blasted thing.
Communism wrapped in idealology. :(
Who was the Roman Emperor who said "Take my son, give him to the poets, the mathmatians, astronomers, physicians but for Jupiter's sake keep him away from the cursed philosophers"
Caesar....I think.
