You analysed the wrong word Kojak :P Cynic is: a person (read you and I) who believes that people (read politician) are motivated purely (not to be confused with purity)by self-interest rether than acting for honourable or unselfish reasons. Suitably cynics were members of a school of ancient Greek philosophers.

Greetings. Sorry, been busy with the newspaper... :D

To set the record straight, they arrived on the Dodecanese Pride and the objective of the jolly outing and conference was to assess the needs of isolated island communities etc. :) What tends to happen is that eurocrats and central government make decisions that affect little places like ours without ever taking the trouble come and look. Hence daft ideas like subsidising sheep-farming in places where there is absolutely zip grazing to start with. :(

Let's hope some good comes of it - I'd hate to think that Stavros' hard work was for nothing!

Political carping aside, the visit can only help the island. I doubt it will change any of the barmy agricultural policies (don't get me started!) but it will have raised the profile of Symi in the eyes of a few Eurocrats and I can't see any harm in that.

I wonder how many of them were on the Olympic Athens - Strasbourg flight yesterday that was diverted to Munich following a bomb scare?
