Day trips to Turkey

The Visitor will no doubt have up to date info but there was a day trip to Datca on a Saturday and sometimes on a Wednesday by the Poseidon. The Aegli also used to do a shorter trip giving you 4 hours in Datca but I don't know if this still happens

The 'Triton' goes to Datca every Saturday. You can book the night before in the harbour. Look for the blackboard advertising trips near where the taxi boats leave from. Take your passport. :)

They will accept euros but watch out for exchange rates in the market. There are cash machines where you can get turkish lira for euro notes - a good tip is to wander round the market and estimate what you might spend before obtaining lira, that way you won't be left with a wad of useless money.

You get a numbered card which has to match with a list held by the port police, that's why you have to hand your passport in the night before. On return the list is checked again against the passport just to make sure there are no "extra" passengers!

Day trips to Turkey

On a day trip a visa isn't usually necessary, but this may depend on what passport you have. It should only be necessary if you stay overnight.

The Aegli hydrofoil is also doing this trip, for the same price as the excursion boats (35 euros) but you don't have as much time over there and it tends to be full of shopkeepers from Rhodes Old Town out to buy cheap cushion covers and rugs to sell to the cruise ship punters... :o

Thanks for the information Richard :) . Think I'll skip Turkey. Everybody should be grateful to receive Scottish Bank notes :D I can also recommend our Canadian dollarettes. :)

As an afterthought, be very careful about the old 20 notes as Turkey may not be accepting them for much longer.

Kojak had better unstuff his mattress fairly soon. That should double the numbers in circulation before they are all withdrawn.

Don't be bashful Kojak  There were pennies dating back to 1861 in circulation until the decimal coinage system was introduced for the arithmetically disabled

Day trips to Turkey

Postby MacDuff » 11 Jun 2007, 03:40

Well, for the record I did not go to Turkey. However I tried to go on the round the island trip on Poseidon. However, as there were only a couple of Aussies and myself, that was cancelled. Then by good luck a SAGA holiday group staying at Pedi Bay booked a trip plus BBQ to Seskli. So both the Aussies and I accepted the offer to go along. Very pleasant.

Well McDuff, I hope it wasn't SAGA by name, SAGA by nature!

I've heard a few horror stories about SAGA insurance :( :( :( ..especially if you're the innocent party

Day trips to Turkey

Postby Jerry » 12 Jun 2007, 10:46

Vanessa's uncle has just returned from a SAGA holiday in the Islands including 4 days on Symi, his first visit staying at Pedi Beach Hotel. Had a great time even though some of the weather was not too good. He would recommend SAGA and Symi to anyone else wanting a good holiday and to be well looked after. We have yet to find out if there was any of Kojak's definition!!.

And you think he'd tell you if there was? I remember talking to a SAGA rep several years ago. He said he'd had the best clientele that fortnight ever. During their week on Rhodes they'd all tottered out of an ouzo tasting trip and he jokingly said "OK! Who's for skinny dipping?" To his amazement and delight, 70% of the bunch put their hands up... and they did! :o

I'm relieved to say that the sordid incident took place in Rhodes. As if decent holidaymakers to Symi would cavort in such a fashion!
