Ask questions about the island of Symi

October temperatures/weather

Postby Les » 03 Sep 2007, 14:15

Hi ,
We usually visit Symi first 2 weeks of Sept and its still quite warm then. This year we may not get there until end of Sept or first week in October and I was wondering how warm will it be then ?

Do people still go to the beach in October and is it warm enough to swim ? :( Any help/advice much appreciated. Thanks. Les :geek:

I know its a number of years since I was there but I remember Oct as one of the better months (as if any are any worse!!) The weather is usually still good during the day with the evenings being cooler so you may need something to throw over your shoulders for strolling aound the harbour or lazing in a bar drinking ouzo's. The sea is still warm enough to swim in. But the best thing is the usually friendly and relaxed locals are even more so as they are starting to wind down after a frenetic season and to enjoy the beauty of where they live for themselves so be prepared for many an impromptu party. Enjoy!! I for one am very envious

I went last year at the end of September/beginning of October Les and it was definitely warm enough for sun bathing and swimming :( .

As Sam indicates, it's also not quite so hectic with less tourists about so you can enjoy getting to grips with the island and the locals a little more :geek: .

Well, we couldn't leave the windows open at night. Bit of noise from all the partying going on next door.

Thanks for all your replies/comments.

It sounds like the weather will be fine and I will be able to go snorkelling in all my favourite places. :D

We were like passing ships in the night then Joanie.

You must have caught the rain that I left behind then....it had rained the day before I got to Symi and then chucked it down  for a couple of days when I left.

We only had a few drops of rain when I left last year - but then, the sun shines on the righteous! :|

I left Symi on October 19 last year :( - Automatic disapproval of leaving! The weather was good for walking and the swimming was great. :) Obviously the sea warms up during the summer, so the temperature is probably higher than during August :D Certainly that applies to the North Sea off Aberdeen :o

The North Sea off Aberdeen may warm up over the summer but it is still to bloody cold for me, mind you as I drove down the Aberdeen esplanade one day last December there were windsurfers and canoeists in the sea and even a couple of realy hardy souls in for a swim :?

You can always plough through the archives of my web diary under Latest news. This covers life on Symi all the year round way back to 2001 I think :?: it is. The preblog stuff is at the bottom of the page - just click on the link.

I started it as people email me wanting to know what it was like on the island at various times of the year :D
