So, what happens on Greek Election Day? Someone very alarmingly mentioned a ban on alcohol for the day ......

Let's hope the Greek people aren't sliding into the same malaise as the British - so cheesed off with all politicians that they simply don't bother...

The lampposts still bear the faded relics of Symi festival concerts and name day celebrations and no one has been out spraying the emblems of political parties on the walls...

By Symi standards, it is a quiet election!

The tragic fires took alot of the shine off from elections ,peoples needs focused on peoples suffering ,but i'm sure it will dominate in tv,radio and papers on the comming days.Even here in Australia we are having federal elections and the leadind news are Football finals or the horse flu.

Adriana, do you get the feeling that people are just fed up with government generally?

Pretty much, and as voting is compulsory everyone is forced to make a choice.

Politics is a family business in Greece, like everything else, which does not encourage much sense of optimism in the electorate.

Eek! Just been out to the kiosk and the downstairs of our office is a mass of PASOK flags, posters and bunting. Turns out they've hired our exhibition hall for the weekend! :o

Whereas there may be some advantages in living next door to the US, one of the disadvantages is that they start election campaigning TWO YEARS in advance. The latest republican candidate formally announced his campaign a week ago, and is being described as a late comer. It's over a year to the election date and gt; So let's all count our blessings. I thought that Kojak and Dave would start a new English Independence Party :) Liven things up a bit. :!:

Anyone read 'Father Dancing' by Nick Papandreou?

Your mention of dancing downstairs Adriana reminded me of that lovely evening in the square at Chorio after the "Clean Up Symi" day. 8-) 8-) 8-) :D I believe that it was Nikos and Wendy who contributed the freely flowing wine :) Very generous of them :)
