Another Q this time about ferries

Postby JohnandDonna » 17 Mar 2009, 23:18

Thanks for info on accommodation. Now we'd like to know what the April Ferry timetables are - firstly all the websites seem to not be quoting schedules beyond March 31, and secondly we seem to remember from two years ago that some ferries don't feature on internet timetables. Anyone out there able to help?

Another Q this time about ferries

Always a problem, especially early and late season. The timetables have to be decided on by the ferry company, then they go to the Ministry of Marine for approval, unless they are for government subsidised routes, then they get loaded onto the websites. As you say, sometimes this process takes so long they never get onto the websites at all before sailing time and only the local agents know about them.
However, has the all the proposed sailings for Dodekanisos Seaways and some or all of the ANES sailings for April, and has just the Dodekanisos Seaways ones. You can't book them yet, they may get altered when the Ministry has looked at them, and there will almost certainly be more ANES sailings and some other operators to come (such as GA ferries). What you can be sure of is that since April includes Easter, there will be ferries because masses of people will want to travel.
Keep checking the websites, or why not ring ANES or Dodekanisos directly?

Another Q this time about ferries

Postby Adriana » 18 Mar 2009, 10:28

I went to Rhodes yesterday - the first 'there and back' in a week - and the Proteus was packed both ways.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get everything done in one day and next week there are no day returns from Symi except on Wednesday which is a national bank holiday so ....

March is always frustrating as it is a month of bureaucracy for people who work here just when the ferry service is at its worst and not everyone can stay in Rhodes for days at a time to get things done. :(

This is a really dumb question from someone who really should know the answer but can anyone please tell me where I would catch the Dodekanisos Pride from please?

Last night I had nightmares (honestly) about wondering around Mandraki harbour looking for it and couldn't find it with visions of it disappearing in the distance and thereby finding myself stranded in Rhodes for far longer than I wanted to be :? ....anyone would think I was looking farward to getting back to Symi

The Pride usually goes from Kolonna harbour. Mazie, but as with all ferries - best to check!

Thank you, thank you, thank you :) , I knew that somewhere in the back of my mind that I knew the answer e.g. Kollona and I knew that I'd also seen the map somewhere but I'm afraid that I'd had a VERY blank moment  and the information had left my single brain cell and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't resurrect my memory :? .....I just hope I can remember what flight I'm coming out on  !

I think you might have to wait until Friday, White Sea. Look at Adriana's report. The link is on the main page - Latest News/Weather and Recipes.

Hello White Sea,

You might be lucky. Though the timetable has not yet been officially confirmed there is a good chance that G. and A.'s "Daliana" will travel from Rhodes to Symi at 6 p.m. on April 2nd.

Best regards, Ifigenia
