Boats from Kos

Hi all,
Has anyone made the trip from Kos to Symi on the Dodecanese Express? We're wondering what the situation is regarding Kos port and ferry departures - is it the same complex situation as Rhodes with Mandraki, Kolona and the commercial harbour or is it more straightforward? Any advice most welcome - thanks.

Much simpler, Frederick. There is a proper ferry terminal building with a cafe and a covered outdoor waiting area as well, on the main quay at one end of the harbour, near the castle.
This is used by all scheduled ferry services (with the possible exception of hydrofoils), including the Dodecanese Express and Pride. All you have to watch out for is that the stop in Kos is brief and Dodekanisos Seaways prides itself on running to time, so keep an eye out for the boat approaching. The orange and blue paint helps with this of course.

Thanks Andy, that's very reassuring. We had visions of lugging suitcases for miles in the heat...
