The Archaeologia is part of the Ministry of Museums and Antiquities and apart from preventing protected areas like Symi from disappearing under a sea of reinforced concrete and Faliraki-style holiday resorts are also responsible for supervising archaeological digs and sites all round Greece, from the Parthenon to Pontikokastro.
Unfortunately as is so often the case with these bodies, their resources are stretched to the utmost and there isn't always the funding available to do everything they want. Nonetheless, they do a pretty good job.
