Right, I've finished the design for the Lazy Days refurbishment:

A great improvement.

Very smart indeed Richard....the only other additiion required would be someone nice to welcome us aboard......perhaps I could suggest Johnny Depp!

For all those who loved Ola's photos the next time you are on Symi go along to Lemonia's shop (along from Takis towards the clocktower) where she sells postcards of Symi - old sepia photos - I think they were about 1 euro each. We saw some of the originals when eating inside Zylygos in October. :D

We were given a more exotic tale over the demise of Lazy Days when we were over in October. The owner is on Rhodes. He pulled some kind of scam on the original owner and then couldn't admit to ownership in case of prosecution but then things do get embelished after a few ouzos.

Just heard on Sky that Greece have qualified for the World Cup in South Africa next year :) :) :) :) :)

Some lovely shots there, Ola.
Isn't it nice to see that Symi has survived so well over the years? Don't know who is responsible for fighting off the white concrete excrecence merchants who have ruined so much beautiful coastline in the name of tourism over the years, but I'll raise a glass to them.
(And then another. And another. And, oh go on then, just one more...)

I think they are called Achiologia(?) John. Adriana will know for certain.
An able body that have held its protective hand over the old neoclassical town as well as sites in Rhodes. They govern architecture, orientation color, windows, where to put the water heater and the parabola disc - the lot in Yalos and the hills. Some of the local entrepreneurs are not happy with them.
The Hotel Nireus is a good example of the work they do. A large new building (for Symi) that blends in beautifully.
Glad you liked the work of an amateur.

The name is the Archaeologia. I don't know precisely what their responsibility is or from which body they get their powers, but they certainly have an overview on all development in protected areas such as Symi.

Well done Ola for finding these fabulous pics....I agree that it would be great to have an online archive.....but maybe symivisitor has enough to do and it needs another enterprising person to tackle it...any takers out there??

Mazie have you been talking to Michelle at the Anastasia, she has been saying for years that someone should buy the Eye Of The Storm, the people smugglers boat which has been moored up in Yialos for about 3 years, and convert it to look like Richard's pirate ship and get a Johny Depp lookalike to skipper her on round the Island trips any takers for the purchase consortium ? if we get enough people we could buy the Lazy Days as well

Gosh yes Eye Of The Storm is another of those sights that always remains in ones minds eye as a symbol of Symi albeit linked to undesirable activities.

It is a nice looking vessel though and its such a shame that it sits redundant when it could be used for something much more productive and positive than the dubious activities for which it has become renowned. Although I doubt Johnny Depp will ever been seen to grace it's bows, I have seen Captain Gorgeous and others manouvering it around the harbour on odd occasions especially when an important visit is due :?: .

It is a pity that it's slowly deteriorating because it was a good, well built boat. Anyone cleaning it out below would, by all accounts, need breathing apparatus as it was jam-packed with illegal immigrants with limited toilet facilities. It would be a great shame if was allowed to get beyond repair. However, Greek red tape etc. is likely to prevent anyone buying it for some considerable time, if ever...

No, and the bed was dry too! Combination of a sore neck and the remnants of an almost fatal cold - being a man I didn't complain of course... :P
