I'm trying to decide whether to bring euros or exchange at the bank on the island Does anyone know what the current exchange rate is?

Hello Doveflies, 1.22 euros/£1 at Sainsburys on Friday (with Nectar card) - I take a combination of cash and a euros cash card.

You're not likely to get a better rate on the island doveflies, you may as well get the best deal you can before you go, either on the highstreet or online. You can top up while you are on Symi at either of the two ATMs you'll find in Yialos.

Suggest you read http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money

which will tell you everything you need to know and more. Currency conversion is a minefield but you should be able to do better than a high street bureau de change and certainly better than the sharks at UK airports.

Remember that on Symi there are limited opportunities to use credit cards in the way we're accustomed in the UK - most tavernas, tourist shops, taxi boats etc aren't geared up for plastic. So the info on how to get the most euros for your pounds, whether at home or abroad, is what you need to home in on.

As Allan suggests, get the best exchange rate you can find in the UK and top up at the ATMs on Symi. I've done this for many years without any problems.

I'm with Jan on this one.
I'v used a Halifax Clarity Card,as suggested by MSE whenever I'm abroad, including Symi and the exchange rate from ATM's is far greater than any UK outlet.
