Someone mentioned the Hermes Hotel in a previous post. We always stay there when we have to overnight in Rhodes and I would absolutely recommend it. Clean and air conditioned rooms, 24h reception and it’s about a 10-15 minute walk to Kolona harbour - physical shape and luggage permitting :-) With early booking, prices are usually very reasonable and breakfast is included :-)

Hi, New to this chat stuff,
Can any one advise me on the flight to Athens as ferry arrives 9.05am ( I hope) and the flight 9.45 that makes it a tight time line to get to the airport and hour early?
OR should I stay over in Rhodes the night before>

In a word (two words), no chance.

Even with a pre-booked taxi waiting and you being amongst the first to disembark you're hardly going to reach the airport in time to wave to the plane as it takes off. Leave Symi the previous afternoon/evening, have a leisurely meal in Rhodes and be ready for what will still need to be an early start on the day of your flight.

There are plenty of places at all prices to stay in Rhodes, all much cheaper than the cost of replacement flights.

Hello CC&L and welcome.

Jan is right. There is no way of catching your flight with those timings, it's far better to spend a day relaxing in Rhodes with an unhurried trip to the airport in good time for your flight.

Hi to all, many thanks for your update re: ferry to airline connection.

Will do as you suggested, enjoy the Rhodes for all its charm.
We are due into Symi early April for 30 plus nights, will there be much open?

Thank you for your time.
Regards , CC&L

Most tourist businesses on the island tend to start opening up around Easter time (April 16 in 2023) so don't expect much choice of eating and drinking places to be available until then.
Easter is a wonderful and spectacular time to be on the island. Whether you get involved with the religious aspect or not, you can't escape the fact that Easter is very special. Expect parades from church to church, candles and fireworks, lots of them! If the fireworks aren't loud enough they use explosives. Really.

You may be asked to keep your room windows open when the bangs and crashes get going as the 'sonic boom' can be really powerful. It's many years since we were on the island at Easter but it was certainly an experience not to be forgotten.

One other thing that's just occurred to me:
Lent is taken very seriously on the island so during the run-up to Easter (called the Big Week) traditional tavernas will stop serving meat so expect to eat a lot of lentil soup. :)

Hi Dean and welcome

If you have booked a holiday with Jet2 then they will book a ferry and provide tickets for you. Early in the season times do tend to change but typically Sunday crossings are 08.00 on the fast catamaran from Dodekanisos Seaways or, much more likely, you could be booked on the (cheaper) Sebeco leaving at around 10 AM.

You're probably right. Getting up in time for a 8 AM ferry is no fun (believe me, I know!) 10 AM is a much more civilised time. But regardless of which ferry they book you on, I strongly recommend having your camera or phone ready because the very first view of Symi harbour is a special experience and one you may like to look back on.
