Hi everyone, thinking of going on 2nd May, am I correct in thinking that no beach tavernas will be open nor taxi boats running? This would not be too much of a problem as we can walk to a couple of beaches. Does anyone think this is just too early to go? thanks

It's never too early to go to Symi! The taxi boats and beach tavernas will start during May, probably partway through. Quite a lot of the island's facilities are there all the time, and you most certainly won't find a problem in locating bars, tavernas, cafes and food shops. Those that aren't year-round have either already re-opened or will do soon. Now that the day trip boats are running from Rhodes the tourist shops are open too.
It's actually a great time to visit - the island will still be green, before the summer sun burns off the vegetation, it won't be crowded, there's long hours of daylight, and it won't be too hot to move.
I'll be on the island myself from 6th May, so this might put you off.
