And here is Dodekanisos Seaways second go at a timetable for October, with the Blue Star sailings mixed in. Don't expect this to actually happen unaltered, there's never been a year yet when the times announced this early have operated unchanged.

Hello Andy. Looking at the Timetable (if it doesn't change in the meantime!), it seems the Pride WILL now depart on a Thursday morning up to 15th October, at 9am from Kolonna but why would it take 2hrs 20mins to do the trip to Symi? and yet only 50mins on the return at 15.30?

Having just typed the above, I checked the Dodekanisos site, which is taking bookings now, and its still only offering the Skiadeni on a Thursday, departing Rhodes on 24th September at 9am. However, coming back on 1st October, again only the Skiadeni, but there is an 06.30. sailing as well as the 16.30. I wouldn't book this early though since as you say, its all bound to change.

I'd suggest two possibilities, one is that it actually goes via Panormitis but they've forgotten to say so, or that it is a typing error.
There's no need to book any of these ferries more than a few days in advance unless there is some major disruption coming up. Booking now for October makes an interest-free loan to the ferry company but doesn't give you any advantages.

Absolutely Andy. Couldn't agree more. And lets hope by then that the Pride is showing on their booking site as your Timetable does look positive that there will be ferries on a Thursday.

The information is from Dodekanisos Seaways themselves:
http://www.12ne.gr/resources/documents/ ... 15_ENG.pdf
They haven't received Ministry approval for the specific sailings you're interested in yet, and until they do aren't allowed to sell them, Nobody will be in any hurry to approve them until the ferries right across Greece for the main summer period are all sorted, which this year is a real problem in some regions.

Looks like a typo by Dodekanisos Andy. The schedule on the booking site shows a more believable 09.50 arrival time. Although, since the Panagia doesn't run on Thursdays during that time perhaps the plan is to include a stop at Panormitis?

Who knows eh? :D

Hi, Andy: The schedule published on FaceBook recently shows no connection between Kos and Leros on Tuesdays. We are planning to go from Kos to Leros on May 26 (a Tuesday) so we checked the Dodecanese website and the booking engine allows booking for that day. Any idea what is going on??? :?:

The facebook schedules only show a week at a time. The most recent one (since your posting here) covers 4-10 May, and does indeed have a Kos to Leros sailing on Tuesdays (Dodekanisos Pride at 14:00). However the facebook versions are only really useful if you're about to set off to the area or are already in it. If it shows up in the booking engine then they intend to operate it on your date.

The diversion via Nissyros, Tilos and Symi between Kos and Rhodes is subsidised by the government. The final approval for the actual timetable hasn't yet been given by the Ministry of Marine, though there's absolutely no reason to suppose it won't be. It is slightly complicated by the Diagoras having its annual overhaul for the first two weeks of June and being replaced by the Blue Star Paros.
In fact there's no need to book this ferry journey so far in advance. both the ships have a capacity of over 1400 people, and even if it was full leaving Piraeus (unlikely in June), by the time they get to Kos a fair few will have got off already, and not many people will want to get on at 3am.
Nobody travelling all the way from Piraeus to Rhodes would be on this ferry in the first place as the Blue Star2 leaves Piraeus 3 hours later and arrives Rhodes an hour earlier - so the main traffic is trucks and cars.
You could buy tickets in agencies in Kos Town or failing that there's a ticket kiosk next to the passenger waiting shelter on the quay at Kos which will be open half an hour or so before the boat arrives.

Thanks, Andy. Very useful. One more question - how wise is it to book in advance (say, on line)? I was just planning to go get tickets the day before for each of my ferry trips on the Dodekanisos ferries.
Do you know anything about ferries from Bodrum to Kos? We are planning to go to Kos on the 25th of May. There seem to be several companies operating.

It's rarely necessary to book more than one or two days in advance when travelling in May. There's a useful colour code in the Dodekanisos Seaways online booking system - start making a booking by putting in the date, ports and number of travellers. On the next page it shows you available ferries (usually just the one) There's a coloured square next to each ferry- red means it can't be booked (usually full), green means there's plenty of room, but if it shows yellow you should book right away as there are very few seats left. The main risk is the 08:30 sailings out of Rhodes which can fill up with day trippers.
