Christos & zoom in on the background .....

This time last weekend we were in Birmingham for a short break to see (again) Les Misérables - D’s fav musical.

Now that’s set in France so why is this appearing on the Symi Forum you might ask.

After a wonderful show in the Hippodrome Theatre we were a bit peckish - nothing new there regular readers of our posts will say :D It was 10:30 pm and even in Chinatown (globe trotting again but nowhere near Symi) most places were starting to close. Not far up the road from the theatre we came upon a place called Santorini’s (Greece at last) which on the face of it looked like a take-away from outside with the added “attraction” of very loud music coming from open windows on the first floor. Looking in, the place looked dead with the staff sitting round a table but undeterred we popped in and asked if they were still open and as one might expect on Symi, they immediately came alive and set a table.

Our kalispera, ti kaneis, and efheristo placed us in good stead with our waiter - Christos. We got chatting and of course mentioned our beloved Symi. He then took us to the counter and pointed at a picture on the wall which if you look hard enough at the picture above is the famous steps on the far side of the harbour. He then explained that the very loud music and hammering on the ceiling was a traditional Greek wedding. So we found Symi in Birmingham.

The menu was short and very traditional and with a shared starter of calamaris and tzatziki followed by chicken souvlaki and a very decent lamb kleftiko washed down with Mythos :D :D :D we were very happy. A complimentary raki and baklava and it was kalinikta.

Is this the omen that prompts us to start looking at May packages, flights, rooms.

I hope so too. Sadly I won't be visiting Symi this year :'( (though am already looking for 2020 ;) ) and will definitely need a Symi fix.
