Not long now :D

To say we've never met you know me so well.

I really don't need this app as I love the ability to get lost!

Only 10 working days left for me!

:D

As we see it, it is one of those very clever ideas but it may be far more effective outside big cities and areas where addressing of properties and places are quite sophisticated and established although our SatNav can still take us to the wrong place even when given a post code in a city.

Here in our small rural village of Llanddeiniol our post code covers quite a lot of properties in an area of lanes, tracks and small roads. House names help if they are visible from the road but we do get knocks at the door from delivery vans, new posties, etc. trying to find a property (often more complicated by a Welsh name). What3Words by mapping the globe with a matrix of small squares and providing each with a unique three word reference makes it far easier for a delivery van if say the likes of DPD used the W3W addressing convention rather than the normal postal address.

D admits that the lack of a logical connection between the three words and the place threw him to begin with as he was looking for a link when none existed.

If loads of users adopt the W3W concept then it could change the way we find places.

We think that's it :ugeek:

Hey D&E, thanks for your reply I'm none the wiser but thanks for trying. I will look at it but I don't know why. Oh could you pretend you're back on Symi please, I miss your daily writings!!!

I don't think Symi has sophisticated and established addressing of properties and places! There's one postcode for the whole island, and many properties have no recognisable address. George the postman looks at the names of the recipients of letters and parcels, and just knows where he is likely to find each of them during delivery times. If they aren't around, he'll leave mail with a relative or at their favourite bar. As for delivery drivers - not really a problem when most properties have no road access and so no deliveries.

Great summing up and my thoughts entirely having had to deliver in the countryside, in the dark, and trying to look at house names. I don't do this anymore.

I can see it being useful on places like Symi to locate a view, building or turning on a path depending on how any mapping software works on your phone and if you have any sense of direction.

I will test it in a few weeks when on Symi.

Actually that was on Rhodes when I was on my way to Symi.
Now, according to the three words app, I am in earplug.algebra.acceleration :D

Not really, despite what you see on the map, as Silver fox spotted I am at Taxiarchis which is a bit of a walk from the museum.

We went up there this morning to see what damage had been done to that area during the storm in November.
Mostly it is fine but there is one small area of damage, that has left some of the lanes impassable and others dangerous to walk on. :o

I have some pictures that I will try to post when I can figure out how to do it from this little tablet.

And no, I haven't tried using the three words app for navigation yet Silverfox.

Thanks for the picture Allan...still trying to work out which path it is.

I'm hoping (being selfish) our normal route back to Sevasti in still ok...we turn left straight after the Museum coming up the main lane from the square.

I'll soon find out be on Symi 2 weeks today!

:)

That picture was from near Stavros Square, some distance from the Museum area so it doesn't affect your route to Sevasti, fortunately.

Oh, that's interesting. The app seems to be catching on and I can see the advantages in an emergency situation.

I only had it on my tablet last year when I tried it on Symi. Now I've put it on my phone I can play some more when I get to eloped.photograph.proactively ;)
