To book or not to book boats.

My parents are visiting in June, now I'm generally a well organized traveler but they want to book boats to Symi and other islands whilst they are there,should I let them wing it or should I book. Is there a chance they wont get a ticket around mid June if they didn't book online.

Very unlikely they'd have a problem in mid-June if they booked on the day, booking two or three days in advance is the safe compromise. Why lend money to shipping lines?
The exception is if they wanted to take a vehicle, or if they wanted one of the overnight Piraeus ferries and needed a private cabin, the cabins do sell out, the ferry itself, never in June.
