Kojak's right. The current position shows more of the pavement which is what people like to see and it's great for the
'Webcam Wave' and anyway, nothing much happens in the sky!
I do understand what you're saying from a photographer's point of view though Jon. The crude auto-exposure tries its best but it's not very good and the sky is awfully over-exposed during the morning at this time of year when the sun is low and the foreground pavement's quite dark.
The good news is that things should get better as the season progresses and the lighting conditions improve.
