Grand Premiere of the Symi Festival

Considering that it is the official opening of the Symi Festival tonight the harbour is remarkably quiet. At the moment it is just the usual gulets jockeying for space but the power boats from Rhodes that usually arrive in their droves for these events have yet to appear. The year Nana Mouscouri appeared the harbour was solid with mega yachts for a good two days. ops:

We will be taking the usual precautions of making sure that all our computers etc are unplugged in good time as there is a history of grand openings with pop stars blowing the island's circuits and plunging the island into darkness!

It's warm up time and Alcestis is rattling our windows. Her repertoire so far sounds like Anastasia's greatest hits...

But the harbour is filling up. Still mainly Turkish flags though.

oops! That WAS Anastasia - the Maltese stink pot tying up opposite the bus stop has a deck sound system... ops:

What on earth is a Maltese Stink Pot?
It sounds like a particularly unpleasant variety of carnivorous plant!

As it was a week night the Rhodians came over by ferry rather than in their yachts. In comparison with other years the harbour wasn't as full.

Hugo reviewed the festival for us and he said the music was great, much more enjoyable than the last time she was here.
