Would not have liked to be making the crossing from Rhodes today looking at your pictures in the lovely column today! Last time we came over on the catamaran and that was just unbelievable, thought hubby who's more than a bit prone to sea-sickness, was going to die!! Never seen so many people being sick. Ugh!

FOR ADRIANA.........

Hi Trailer,

We inadvertently got caught up in one of these on our way back to Cyprus one year. Luckily it was the right direction and we did the stretch from Limassol to Larnaca in half the usual time. Didn't do the old boat much good though - bent the rudder and dumped a good chunk of our railings somewhere at the bottom of the sea when a wave broke right over us and knocked the boat over on her side. it took me days to clean up the mess inside after we finally tied up in Larnaca. :o Ah, life on an ocean wave, tra la ;)

Go to http://www.planetsmilies.com pick a smiley you'd like to use, then copy its address from the box below it. Then click on the insert image icon from the toolbar above your message (directly to the right of the one with the # character on it) and paste the link address between the img brackets. Like this! Oops, sorry folks, it was me Adriana asked where they came from and I forgot to add the info to my post. Now we can all indulge and lovely and/or disgusting little 'smilies'. Actually I got the info from Mike who put it up on this site a while ago!

And talking of rough crossings, as we were, the worst ever was one year to went to Tilos. It was so bad, and in a VERY small boat, that I truly did not think we would make it. The only way I stayed 'calm' was by singing 'Onward Christian Soldiers' at top of my voice, and couldn't even hear myself over the roar of the wind and sea and waves crashing over our little boat. Fortunately no one else could either.

The whole deck was awash with everything from the shelves including broken glasses and various bottles of booze rolling from one side of the desk to the other. We loved Tilos, but NEVER made the trip again. Bit dis-concerting hearing one of the crew in a bar a few days later talking about the trip, and saying he also though we'd not make it! The whole trip took nearly 4 hours. It was hell. Anyone had a similar experience? Apparently the Tilos locals were used to seeing poor passengers crawling off the boat on all fours, and believe me many did! AND, the captain turned around and made his way back, because he had a pick-up on Rhodes the next morning! Oh Greek sailors eh?

One of our worst trips was to Tilos about 5 years ago. It took about 4hrs and there were loads of sick bags.
I have only been seasick once and that was 3 years ago on a horrendous crossing which started out as a bit of a laugh............I was laughing on the other side of my face when we got to Symi.
