They - the Hollywood elite :P are busy handing out Oscars. What about a poll on the islands :) The Oscars usually nominate five, so lets do it in our order starting from fifth to first :) Mine are: Patmos, Nisyros, Lipsi, Tilos and the Oscar goes to Symi :geek: And to collect the Oscar, Adriana :D

Symi is the only one of these islands I have visited so, as MacDuff says, there is no choice.
Yes, Joanie, he has invaded the chatroom. How went the wall demolition, OG?

Easier than we imagined, Mille. All over and done with in 3 hours, the morter was esier than expected. Now the big wrought iron fence can be erected. :D

I left the chat room pretty quick when Wally and Bobby came on, it was very, very malicious.

Well no Ozzie Geoff. Hence my supporting my Oscar vote by spending many hours on my backside in May to return to Symi. 8-) 8-) 8-) That is having visited a dozen of the islands - haven't been to Halki :( No island hopping this time, just two whole weeks living in Chorio. :geek: But for example, only Tilos has the baby elephant skeletons - some day Symi may match with historic remnants of Taxi drivers

Great to see Helen Mirren get the real McCoy.. :D

I must say that Patmos is very close to my heart. I am not a religious person by any means but the visit to the grotto of St. John had a profound effect on me. It was where he wrote is book of Ecclesiastics. The lecturn is there where his scribe wrote his words as he was very old and almost blind. The niche cut into the rock that he used as a pillow.
Extremely moving experience. :|

Yes Ozzie Geoff, and a nice walk up to the monastory. Lovely taverna just around the corner. When I was there, some EEC BIG WIGS arrived on a ship and were disembarked onto coaches. Guards all along the quay, so whipped on a necktie and marched out at about 120 to the minute - best National Service style. Guess what, the guards let me through :) I then posed in the at ease position and they left me alone. 8-) But I have to say that I was impressed by the obvious luxury which the EEC could afford for it's political BIG WIGS :o I guess they've just got more money than we colonials :)

Top vote for Symi, but would urge anyone who hasn't been to Lipsi to do so. Incredibly tranquil with a gently rolling landscape ideal for walking.

Welcome Shadrack :D Yes, I have been tempted to book into Anna's place. Just that two weeks on Lipsi might be a bit too long :?: However, there are some nice beaches for both a swim and a :!: My reasons for placing Tilos as my second choice, were the variation of walks, and also good beaches. :geek:

Without giving it away too much Kon in case you haven't seen it, Jack was giving a back operation last night to someone on the island. Kojak, it is really sad when I'll be watching the repeat tonight......... :-)
