Symi Sunshine .. What A Tonic!

Postby Sweet Sue » 27 Jul 2007, 18:09

Hi folks - now back after another fantastic holiday on Symi. Honestly, mid 40's is bearable (when you don't have to work in it of course. Even managed to get up to Patmos for a few days and a trip over to Lipsi.
Must go .. need to see what's available for Sept or Oct!!!

Hi Sue - glad you enjoyed the rest of your holiday. We bumped into you a few times at Pedi and then on our last night in Jeans. It's awful coming back to this weather, isn't it!

Patmos is well worth a visit, Kon. I am not a religious person
by any means but when I visited the grotto where St. John wrote his Ecclesiastics, I knew I was indeed in a holy place. I have never had the feeling before or since. :|
Another thing I remember about Patmos were the peaches. Boy, were they delicious, the size of bloody baseballs. :D The best place to eat them was sitting at the sea shore. :) :geek:

Symi Sunshine .. What A Tonic!

Thanks for all your greetings!
OG - we've fortunately been unaffected by the floods and our home is safe and sound.
Hi John H - the every other year man! You do know that it got even hotter after you left!
Maziemoo - didn't get to Tilos. Leaving Symi once to go to Patmos was enough for me but maybe we'll do it next time.
Kon - as OG said Patmos is worth a visit. I got on the boat at Symi feeling quite glum but have to say that we did enjoy the few days there. Walking around the monastery and small Chorio was really interesting but unlike OG I found the grotto rather contrived but then maybe I'm just a cynic! Food was of a very good standard, as was our accommodation which was just 30 Euros per night!!! Having said all that, I was grinning like a cheshire cat when I set foot once again on Symi - there really is no place like "home".

Patmos is certainly worth a visit, spent a week there last year and enjoyed every minute, plenty to see with walks up to the monastry offering fantastic views. A grat place to eat with many Tavernas to choose from. Lipsi the year before for two nights when we were sailing and for a full week 3 years ago. Definitely on the list to return to again, peace and quiet with a very slow pace of life, you can walk all the island although there is a bus that runs to the beach and taverna at the other end of the island to Lipsi town.
