SYMI MY LOVE

Postby Arne Thomsen » 26 May 2007, 20:07

Symi - I'm coming to you again - as so many times before.

And still I am like a little baby before Christmas.

Yes I know - when the boat rounds the last point - and I can again see, that Symi is not just a dream - but existing - I will have tears in my eyes - from happiness - and I cannot wait to see again: Yialos, Chorio, Panormitis - and Stavros tou Polomou - all the spirit of Symi.

Silence, harmony and happiness - next Sunday.

Arne.

SYMI MY LOVE

Welcome to the chat page Arne.

I think everyone here knows just how you feel! The spirit of Symi grabs and holds on to you.

I'll be there too in a few days time and I can't wait for that first glimpse of the harbour as the ferry rounds the headland.

SYMI MY LOVE

Postby maziemoo » 28 May 2007, 13:44

I know exactly how you feel Arne.....I've honestly never experienced anything or anywhere else quite like the sense of homecoming when I set foot on Symi again.

Although I've not long returned from the island, I can't wait to get back in September. The place really tugs at my heart strings and I find myself pining to get back there whenever I'm away.

I'd love to make my home there but with unwell and frial elderly parents and 2 sons who I'm very close too, I find myself painfully torn between what I feel is my sense of duty and what I would like to do for myself....one day maybe. But for now at least I have the benefit of being able to visit at least.

SYMI MY LOVE

So you all feel that way imagine what it's like when your family Is from Symi and you live so far away (in Australia) that your visits are few and far between.
Never mind rounding the corner and seeing Yialo for the first time in years as soon as the Rocks of Symi come into sight the tears start to flow and the feeling of coming home is there.

You all capture emotions with words here :(

I still get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about Symi.

My dad once had a cap saying

I love symi

That is still oh so true

SYMI MY LOVE

Postby Arne Thomsen » 30 May 2007, 16:32

On the other side of Vigla - before descending to miracoulos Panormitis - yes I know - Stavros tou Polomou! (Cross of war) - the mountain itself formed as a cross - with the monastery on the very top - nearest to heaven - and Christ - in the litle church - looking directly upon YOU!

Moment of truth!

As I see it.

Apology for not too perfect English - my Greek is even worse - I do better in Danish, but then You cannot understand my words

Kind regards Arne

I think we're about two or three Danes here, Arne ;)

I would understand, and I feel the same way about Symi

I'll be on Symi - on my own - Sunday evening June 3rd for one week, having breakfast at Lefteris in Chorio, Ouzo at Pochos, fish soup and Kollochithokia tiganit at Sotiris in Meraklis - going by scooter everywhere I like.

I am 73, not very much hair, much more stomach - and a beard - open for conversation - not the least about Symiotic mysticism

Hi, hi - Arne ;-) (Couldn't put my photo on the Avatar)
