Hi, we are regulars to Symi but haven't been for a couple of years and wanted to know if the anyone could tell us the name of the restaurant behind the basketball court - it has a grand staircase going down to the toilets and is usually reasonably priced? I think it begins with an N but not sure!

it's quite big and they cook just inside the main door, to one side is quite a posh restaurant with a path going up to the front door.
thanks
Joyce

It's the 'Neraida'.

As Mike says, it is indeed the Neraida and we have spent many a happy hour sampling their excellent food. Michael and Yannis (pictured pointing at the fish for the camera) are most welcoming hosts. Try the mixed fish mezze. Expensive but well worth it. We will no doubt be there on June 2nd (ash and volcano permitting!). Martin.

Ah, the Neraida. Good memories. We have made it a tradition now to always go to the Neraida on our first evening on Symi. Always feel very welcome and find the prices very reasonable compared to some of the other restaurants. Just a pity we won't be visiting the Neraida this year, but hopefully next year.

Mmmmmmm. Naraida. Very, very recommended. We had outstanding lamb stuffed with wild oregano last year. Just watch the cats don't get ALL of it! I think it's the one right next to the Customs House on the Kali side. Close to there anyway.

Someone book us a table for September, please. I'll have the lamb again.

... Neraida...across the bridge heading towards the customs house then turn right along the side of the square (past where the chinese and Daphnie used to be)...its on the left corner before the little hairdressers...

I've never tried the Nereida (I guess I've been put off by its size, which makes it look as though it's designed for parties of day trippers), but on this basis I certainly will.

Yet another taverna that looks like being added to my list of 'must eat there several times during my visit': Merakls, Dimitri's, Girgo and Maria's, The Windmill, Sllogos, Zoe's. If I try to visit each of these once a week, there'll be no time for anything else!
