Symi energy saving day

Just heard a piece on UK national radio news about an energy saving day on Symi. (Fist time Symi has featured, I think!). Any news on this?

Are you sure that wasn't Simi Valley, California?

No signs of any energy being saved here - if the power station was down I wouldn't be putting up this post!

Unless I had gone back to sleep without noticing and was dreaming (not a first!), they reported that as all Symi's energy came via a single cable, energy savings would be easy to measure. Residents (said the report) were being asked to turn off un needed appliances to see what savings were possible, and estimate how much energy was being wasted. Symi's positition and circumstances made it ideal for this experiment.

If I WAS dreaming, it's a dammned good idea my unconscious brain has come up with!

Unlike other some of the other small islands which get their power via undersea cables from places like Rhodes (Halki for instance), Symi has its own power station so that doesn't make sense.

DEH includes fliers with all the electricity bills, asking consumers to be frugal and not use electric ovens, grills, air conditioners or water boilers during peak periods to avoid overloading the grid and causing blackouts.

Yes, of course Symi has a power station, noisy old thing that it is. I wasn't properly awake, clearly. Very odd.

The news item was about the Scilly Isles - perhaps you were dreaming of Symi and made a subconscious connection?
