SNOW A CHANCE TO BOAST

We furriners can only look with amazement at the TV pictures of Brits sleeping in cars and lorries. Whose got "it" worst :?: Don't be modest, tell us

SNOW A CHANCE TO BOAST

Postby Oor Willie » 03 Dec 2010, 17:05

One of my drivers was trying to make a delivery in Livingston yesterday and when he jumped out of the cab of his truck the snow came up to his waist and while he is not the tallest guy in the world thats still pretty deep for undrifted snow in an urban location. The temperature climbed to a tropical -1C here this morning but is now falling rapidly again and Heather just called me to say it has been snowing pretty hard at home and I better leave work early to make sure I get home before the roads get bad again.

SNOW A CHANCE TO BOAST

No snow has fallen here today in n.e. Scotland but more expected tonight and tomorrow. Here in Stonehaven we have had about 18 inches - very unusual for such close proximity to the sea. Once out onto higher ground the depth is about 3 - 4 feet. Food supplies just getting in today. Minus 19 degrees last night and so cold the iron gate cannot be opened as the iron is frozen hard. The most exciting thing that can be done outdoors is to go on a food forage!!!!! Since Monday i have read 6 books and the house is gleaming from housework to keep warm. Temperature has not risen above freezing all day.

Here goes for another attempt. This is Tanfield, a small village in north west Durham.

SNOW A CHANCE TO BOAST

Postby Gemma1 » 04 Dec 2010, 10:41

Lovely pictures and I must admit the snow looks beautiful but I think I'd be happy if I never had to see 'real snow' again in my life. We've got about 4-6 inches at the moment but there's no sign of it going and it's been causing chaos on the roads. Leeds city centre was gridlocked on Wednesday and I had to walk all the way home from work which took me 3 hours (it's about 8 miles). My car hasn't moved from the back of the house since Sunday - thank goodness I live on a bus route ;) . I keep looking at the temperatures on Symi and can't believe how warm it is still is :)

SNOW A CHANCE TO BOAST

Postby snoopy2 » 05 Dec 2010, 12:21

My chickens used to go to roost themselves when dusk came - all i had to do was lock the door behind them. Bless them they laid me eggs all through last winter (i think partly because i went up every day with warm mash for them!) and when the weather improved stopped. Ex bats so egged out. Now happilly retired to large scratching, free range estate at Kirrimuir. Oh happy chickens!

SNOW A CHANCE TO BOAST

Postby snoopy2 » 07 Dec 2010, 23:32

:o Still under piles of snow Sugardens. Temperatures been below freezing for days now and walking is a broken hip/arm/wrist waiting to happen. However having looked out for a couple of oldies who don't venture out at all and distributing my most excellent broth tuck myself in every afternoon with yet another good book. Surviving well thanks for asking - how about yourself? :D

Tell me Snoops, what "animal" adorns the weathervane on the parish kirk in Kirriemuir :?: Secondly, as one goes from the square opposite Vissochi's ice cream shop through the passage way to the kirk, there is a doorway with a heart and initials each side on the lintel facing you. Date and initials :?:

O.K. The "animal" is a dragon.
The initials on each side of the heart, are I F and B F, history does not record whether B F was the husband or the wife. The date (of the marriage) shown, is 1697.
.
Isn't trivia wonderful. Bet you thought that I was going to say that the animal was a GINGER turkey. They however are a sub species living in the Pedi valley :(
