Some of you may remember David Hughes from the old Symi chat page. David had a liver transplant some time ago and had made excellent progress with that. A short time ago I received an email from him saying that he'd had a small aneurysm in the brain but seemed to be making a good recovery. His brother emailed me today to say that he'd suffered a further aneurysm coupled with an infection (probably due to his immune system being affected by the transplant anti-rejection drugs). David is now in an induced coma in the Sheffield Hallamshire Intensive Care Unit and is fighting for his life. His wife has asked for no visitors as David had made it clear that he didn't want that. I'm sure everyone who remembers Dave will wish him a speedy recovery. His brother has promised to keep me informed.

How very, very sad, I had an email from him about this a few weeks back, possibly the same one that you did K.

He has been very upbeat about everything all the way along and I have admired his strength of character...the guy's a fighter for sure.

I do hope he pulls through, my Inbox seems positively bare without his jokes.

Come on Davey boy we're all rooting for you xxx

We are very sorry to hear this. All of us here at the Symi Visitor wish him a speedy and full recovery.

I think he was probably one of the most quoted contributors when I used to do my chat page round up for the Symi Visitor newspaper and I still have a print out of that completely ridiculous chat page Christmas pantomime. (nostalgic moment)

Some further news about Dave. I had an email this morning from his brother Stephen. The hospital have brought Dave out of the induced coma. His blood pressure is still very high but his eyes opened and he seems to understanding what his wife Gail is saying. Stephen will keep me informed.

I have just read your message Kojak and was shocked to hear about Dave. Findlay and I had just been talking about Dave and Gail yesterday, wondering how they were getting on. We are so glad to hear that he has come out of his coma. If you are in contact with them please give them our best wishes and we hope Dave makes a full and speedy recovery.

I remember that pantomime well :D I know there used to be a few rammies on the website in those days, but there were a lot of laughs too.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family. Stephen is kindly keeping me informed also.

Nice to see old faces popping out of the woodwork when our friend is going thru a very rough patch. You're not a bad bunch after all.

Some further news about Dave Hughes, I received the following email from his brother:-

"he is still in Sheffield Hallamshire hospital but is starting to make a little progress , he has been off the machines now for a couple of weeks but its taken its toll, he has a trackie tube in his throat to enable him to breathe and every day or so they block it to allow him to talk to his wife but he is having trouble controlling his breathing, what with every thing that was going on at the time when he was critical the doctors think he suffered a stroke on top of everything else which has left him with very little movement ( leg and fingers) i spoke to his son yesterday and the doc's are looking at transferring him back to a hospital near to his home which is a forward step as its about a 40 mile round trip every day for his wife and means that he doesnt need the specialist care that the Hallam provide"
its not great news but at least he is fighting it
