Beer!

Postby Allan » 08 May 2012, 23:50

As you all know, I rarely ever visit the booze section of the supermarket except for the odd bottle of Sanatogen but I was wandering past the shelves in Morrison's today on the way to the Horlicks department when I just happened to notice that the Mythos was on special offer for 1-29.

Not only that. If you want to remind yourselves of that day trip to Datcha they have Efes at an amazing 1 for a 500ml bottle!

Yamas!

:o EEk - only just read your Mythos bit Allan. That orange thing is back in the sky - yesterday it was t shirt weather so today it can be t shirt and Mythos weather. Nothing like a cold Mythos to aid worshipping. :D

Yes indeed it is a Jennings beer Colette. I'm amazed you can remember which brewery you visited, considering the company you were in ;)

As I attended school at the same ttime as Ken - now Sir Ken Morrison and my mother would at times buy food from his mother's stall in the market. It is interesting to reflect upon him developing a business employing 130,000 people during his working life providing more social and economic benefit than most politicians can ever dream about - a real entrepreneur - Britain could use more of his kind! Especially to sell Mythos at 1.29 a time :)

I gave in to temptation and bought some. Unfortunately my local store were unable to supply 30C temperatures and a few thousand square miles of blue sea to go with it. Wasn't the same...

Jon, just whack up the central heating, turn on all the lights, fill up the bath, open a chilled Mythos and use some imagination! 8-)

I realise there may be some regulations about using water in drought areas but what Jon's describing is drinking Mythos in sub-optimal conditions and that must count as some sort of emergency, surely?

Hey folks, why don't we all talk about the merits of beer and Mythos in particular. :D I can only hope that when we visit the UK this summer that I can pop into Morrisons and purchase a Mythos or two to compare with Cuba's Buchanero. :) The best way for those going to Symi to support the Symians is to spend plenty of time - and money in the Tavernas - beth at the foot and the top of the Kali Strata. Although my bones will be either in the UK or Cuba, I shall think of those sitting at 4.00 p.m. in Chorio with locals like Neil and Toby enjoying the first drink of the evening 8-)

I have to admit that the English produce beer that is better suited to my palate than the rather sweet Scottish ones - and as a Rugby player I downed plenty of both. So, I can hardly wait to down a pint of Shepherd Neame bitter in Kent. The essence of tradition having been made with water from one well at Faversham by the same family for over 200 years. As we will be visiting friends and relatives in the heart of the Highland malt area I think I could pass on the Metaxa. But, not on the Mythos. I am receiving e-mails from the UK warning me about the traffic and road conditions - for example, I was thinking that Ashford (Kent) to Scarborough would take about 5-6 hours, but am told I am optimistic. It's four years since I last drove in Scotland and six since last driving in the south of England. :o
