If he pops in again, Adriana, tell him that OG says "Hi" and hopes he has a great holiday. He is a very nice fellow. Benedetti, ah well, shes probably arranging her soires Maybe she got those milky whites sunburnt.
It's a legacy from my early years in Germany, along with a liking for marzipan (especially marzipankartoffeln and Mozart kugeln) and a well-established fondness for beer, bratwurst and potato salad...
I have no idea what mozart kugeln and marzipankartofeln are (mozart balls?? ) But a sandwich with marzipan and nougat, yum Beer, bratwurst and tatosalad.. well, the tatosalad, if I make it myself. Beer.. Only Dark Ale from Newcastle (- and only a glass, because I get so sleeeeeepy )
When my father was singing at Kiel Opera House I remember being taken to Copenhagen on the ferry at least once. As this predated my first spectacles it was something of a blur but I do remember potato salad featuring in that outing too, along with late summer night picnics on the shores of the Kiel canal
All my earliest recollections are connected with food...
Mozartkugeln are little marzipan, jelly and chocolate balls wrapped in foil with a picture of Mozart on the wrapping. Speciality of Salzburg, but they'd already crossed the border into Bavaria when I was doing my au pairing stint there - practically lived on them!
Marzipankartoffeln are little 'potatoes' made out of firm marzipan rolled in cocoa powder.
Ever thought of writing a book, Adriana? What an interesting life you have had, Germany/Austria, trips over Europe, Israel, South Africa and now Greece. Wonderful!! Can I ask where you were born? ops:
Brighton, Sussex, because my father was singing at Glynbourne but I was only 6 weeks only when we left for Germany where we lived for the first 5 years of my life.
