No more Laskarina!

The Halki board has been busy with news of Laskarina folding at the end of the season. I suppose Symi will be affected by this as well but maybe to a lesser extent than Halki. Think there is perhaps a broader base of DIY-ers and other companies going to Symi.

That is bad news. I wonder if George Kaladoukas who is their agent on Symi will continue with their properties on the island? It looks like wee Jimmy and me will have to find new accommodation for next year or try a different island.

It is indeed bad news and I feel particularly sad for their 32 employees, one of whom got married today at St. Nicks.

A pretty lousy wedding present eh?

Yes, we were there when the news broke last Monday. On board Triton we could not believe what we were hearing. Feel sorry for all the employees and property owners. Laskarina introduced us to Symi and although we have travelled independently and with Olympic, as well as with Laskarina, since our first visit in 2001, we have a soft spot for Laskarina and have always maintained a friendship with their reps. Do hope that a sympathetic operator will step in and maintain the traditions established by Laskarina.

Very sad news indeed. I wonder how dramatically this will impact on Symi's tourist industry overall. It certainly won't help. Much of the UK travel industry have had a disastrous year.
