Postby Mille » 26 Nov 2006, 10:51

Next saturday all the Christmas stuff will be put up, we will start baking "brunkager, peberndder and vaniliekranse" which are Danish Christmas cookies. :D
We start early this year, the oldest kids will go to their dad for the holidays  and we wont be home most of the christmas.

I have a four page wish list from all four kids hanging on the fridge door, to remind me about shops like Toys'R'us :(

What I want?? Hmm, a ticket to Symi!!

I hope you've all made your cake and pudding. Remember today is Stir-up Sunday ... See Collect for 25th after Trinity.

In the Book of Common Prayer (Cranmer's beautiful prose) The Collect prayer for the 25th Sunday after Trinity (today) starts "Stir up , we beseech thee, oh Lord ...". It is the traditional day for stirring up Christmas cakes and puddings.

One leaves the stirring to Messrs Fortnum and Mason who provide ours :P Remember that 1st December is the last day for putting the sprouts on so they'll be ready for Christmas!

I taught The Grocer everything he knows about Christmas puddings, Kojak. The best way to eat them is fried in butter with sugar and lemon juice for breakfast on Boxing Day. I've never been able to manage any on the 25th, mainly because of my constant thirst for revenge against one turkey who slashed my face open many years ago. I ate him as well. Now that's revenge: a dish best eaten hot.

Just found some raisins that I popped into Metaxa this time last year - they should make a pretty lively Christmas pud!

1St December today. Don't forget that this is the last day to put the sprouts on if you want them cooked by Christmas Day.

Hi Richard,

I haven't even got round to planting mine yet...

Never seem to get them to grow larger than peas, but they are quite yummy braised with a handful of toasted walnuts or pinenuts and tossed over a spring salad... (You can see I'm no Pom!)

That's the first suggestion for sprout consumption I'd be prepared to think about trying. Sprouts and wasps - why were they invented?

You MUST have sprouts with Christmas dinner - I'm afraid it's compulsory. :( I didn't spend half my childhood with one lodged unseen in my mouth so that you lot could get away without eating any.....

Not much of a compliment for Brussels, is it? Sprouts and Jean Claud van Damme ?
Thank heavens for Django Reinhart and Poirot ! 8-)

Brussels?
Audrey Hepburn or

Mara's Sprout salad:
1 lb. fresh, rinsed brussels sprouts
4 slices bacon
1 oz. crumbled blue cheese
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
3 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and freshly cracked pepper
You can work out the rest yourself.
Stavros doesn't do this one.
